Melting Large Castings

This past week I needed to get rid of a bunch of wood from a shed re-roofing project that I'm doing.  I figured that as long as I was burning up a bunch of wood, I may as well throw some large castings that I have laying around and melt them down into smaller, more usable pieces.

The set-up consisted of a steel 55 gallon drum with holes cut into the bottom.

A couple of castings that to be melted.

After a little while, the metal starts flowing out the bottom.

Here you can see the pile starting to build.
